Attractions in Central Park

Central Park is by far the most famous green rectangle of space in the world! Situated at the heart of Manhattan, it is one of the main New York City attractions. It has an area of 850 acres with 36 bridges and lots of landmarks and places to visit and see. The park is open to visitors daily from 6:00 AM till 1:00 AM, with free entry for everyone since 1858!

Belvedere Castle

Located very close to the American Museum of Natural History and the Great Lawn, and right above the Turtle Pond in the heart of Central Park, Belvedere Castle is a magnificent folly. It brings a combination of Gothic and Romanesque architecture to the modern Manhattan.

Turtle Pond

Right in the feet of the Belvedere Castle and the Vista Rock, in the heart of Central Park, is located the picturesque Turtule Pond. The waters of the small artificial water reservoir, which was created in 1937, also wash the short shoreline of the Great Lawn.

Strawberry Fields

Covering an area of 1 hectare and located just west of the Lake in Central Park stands the Strawberry Fields Memorial. It was created in 1981 and has been permanently opened since 1985.

Bethesda Terrace and Fountain

The terrace, which has two levels connected by three stairways, was constructed between 1959 and 1963. It is located right above the waters of the Lake and north of the Terrace Drive, Bethesda Terrace With the Fountain in its heart is one of the most renowned architecture landmarks in Central Park.

Conservatory Garden

Conservatory Garden is a very intimate affair. Hidden away between trees and shrubs, this is the place where many annual flower displays are put up. Right in the middle of the garden you can find the memorial fountain of Frances Hodgson Burnett by Bessie Potter Vonnoh. The garden is a great palce to escape from the busy town and relax.

Wollman Rink

Wollman Rink is a skating ring in the winter (starting in October). The Wollman Rink offers private and group lessons in hockey ,skating and figure skating . It is also possible to organize birthday parties and events here. During summertime it turns into a beautiful Victorian Garden.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Metropolitan Museum of Art is among the most famous ones in the world, and certainly the most renowned and visited in New York City. The Egyptian exhibition alone boasts more than 26,000 items placed in 39 rooms. The most stunning part of it is a reconstruction of the burial chamber of Perneb, a courtier. There is also a large Chinese exhibition as well as Medieval one.

Central Park Zoo

Located just a few yards away from 5th Avenue Central Park Zoo is home to over 130 species. It is like a small piece of the Tropics in the center of NYC. The Zoo is located on more than five acres and uses them to recreate the natural habitats of the animals. The best way to get to know the animals and the grounds is by competing in the Central Park Zoo Quest.
